About Our Natural and Organic Fabrics
|
Organic Cotton
Organic cotton is cotton that is grown and
processed without Earth (or human) harming
chemicals. Every T-shirt of organic cotton saves
3 Tbs of Pesticides from our rivers, oceans and
air. (imagine how much a king sheet set saves).
Also the organic cottons are not allowed to
maintain organic certification unless they are
processed and finished without chemicals. That
means you may have to iron, but you won't have
to breath fermyldahyde.
Eco Fleece
Eco Fleece is a soft and durable fleece
made from recycled pop bottles. It is
denser then regular fleece, making it
perfect for winter wear. It is also a double
velour meaning that it is fuzzy on both
sides.
Hemp
Hemp is an incredable fiber made from the
stalks of the Hemp plant (no you can not
get high from smoking it, because it is very
low in the chemical that causes you to get
high and very high in a chemical that
counter acts the high). Hemp is very, very
strong and with washing or wearing I
suggest you consider it as a linen, (also
iron on linen setting) and realise that it gets
softer with age and abuse.
Hemp grows very easily, often with no
chemicals at all, however sometimes
chemicals are added in the processing.
Hemp has natural anti-microbial properties.
Organic/Natural Wool/Alpaca
Wool and other animal fibers are just plain
wonderful. Mother nature designed them to
cover our animal kin and keep them healthy,
happy and dry.
Organic wool is from sheep that was grown on
organic pastures, and did not have chemicals
applied to them. The wool was then them
processed with out chemicals so you end up
with a fiber clean and fresh as nature intended.
Natural wools can vary according to the
production, but are undyed and have fewer
chemicals then conventional wool products.
The properties of wool are numerous. Wool has
the ability to absorb water and still maintain it's
insulating powers (actually it increases). And
wool can hold up to 300% of it's weight in
water without feeling wet.
Wool is also good at maintaining a constant
body temperature no matter what is going on
outside. In summer it keeps you cool and in
winter it keep you warm.
Wool also has natural anti-microbial and
anti-dirt properties.
However, wool is sensitive to washing, often
requiring hand washing and laying flat to dry.
Color Grown Cottons
Color grown cottons are organic cottons
that are grown in a color. The cotton
plants literary bloom is a variety of
brown and greens. These browns and
green color growns are then used in the
fabric. Unlike dyed fabrics color grown
colors will get darker with washing.
These are a wonderful way to add color
and variety to a wardrobe that has to be
100% natural.
Eco Spun is a fiber made from recycled
pop bottles.
Bamboo comes from the long fibers of
the bamboo plant. Bamboo grows very
fast, and chemically free. It is said to be
a very soft fiber.
A note about Terms used on our web site:
Organic: Certified organic. American and European certification is among the best in the world. Watch out for Chinese certified organic. It doesn't not mean as much.
Natural: Nothing added. If a color is natural that mean undyed and unbleached. If a fabric is natural then it has no added chemicals in processing.
Flannel: Brushed woven with a soft hand.
|
Ivory: Color designation. Has probably been bleached (peroxcided) and dyed for an even color.
Low impact dye: Dye that doesn't use heavy metals in processing. It is gentle on the earth and you.

Clothing with a pedigree
Like a dog, horse or human organic clothing comes with a pedigree. That is we have to track it's production from seed to finished garment and know every thing that was done to it (or near it, if chemicals are in use). So if you need to find things that are as chemical free as possible in our modern world, we can do that for you. All of our items can be tracked back to seed (or lamb), and we will happily work with you to fill your needs. Want to know now? Email or call 866-490-3008.
